Feeling Overwhelmed as Mom
Have you ever wondered how your mom got it all done without feeling overwhelmed? Well, I have and even wrote a post about this wrong mode of thinking I held for years. And yet I still go each day trying to get it all done! I can’t get it all done and it leaves me feeling exhausted and defeated. But it seems us moms are trapped in this maze of to-dos and not-done.
You’ll Keep Feeling Overwhelmed Until…
Recently I was listening to a podcast about burnout, by God’s providence. He had been telling me in various ways that I was doing too much. I knew I was missing things that I had once done as a stay at home mom, but I was so rushed that they were only in the back of my head. I even told this to my husband who encouraged me to step back, but I didn’t.
As I listened to this podcast about another mom’s burn-out situation I realized just how bad things could get if I didn’t stop. Then she spoke of how Jesus came to earth to complete the Father’s will and He did!
John 6:38 says, “For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.”
Matthew 17:5 says, “While he was still speaking, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and behold, a voice out of the cloud said, “This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased; listen to Him!”
But we also know that Jesus did not heal every person that was sick or disabled. He did not go to every town and teach and preach to every unsaved person. Jesus also took the time to rest. And yet, the Bible tells us He did everything the Father had sent Him to do.
What Does God Want Us to Get Done
One thing that God has been pointing out to me just this week is Revelation 2:4
But I have this against you, that you have left your first love.
This tells me that God wants me to focus on Him. My first love. Yes, I have all of these duties but if I’m not doing things for Him, to Him, through Him, then it doesn’t matter how much I accomplish, I will not complete the Father’s will! Now, what’s more important, doing things to check a list or make myself proud or doing what God has for me to do – Love and Serve Him, Go and Make Disciples, Be Peacemakers, Be Thankful and Be Prayerful.
Yep, you know the answer.
