How To Get Your Life Together

How to Organize Your Mom-Life

This whole blog is a mother’s helper.  I set this place up as a refuge for moms to come and figure out what in the world they are doing.  Because, frankly, no one told you.

No one told you how you would feel day in and day out as if you are going through a never-ending cycle of playing, cleaning, figuring out the food, changing diapers and listening to nonsensical chatter.

Then get up and do it again.

But in all of that, maybe you don’t know how to take care of a house, cook, manage money, discipline your child or even yourself to get up in the morning or even, sadly, get dressed.

I was right there with you.

It isn’t that you don’t have goals – almost everyone has some type of goals.
It isn’t that you don’t want success – almost everyone wants to achieve success.
The problem is you don’t know how to get your life together.

Where do you start to get your life organized? This brief 101 on mom life organization will get you a grounding in how to get your life organized.

The Checklist

[  ]  Do you have a Morning Routine?
[  ]  Do you have a Cleaning Schedule/Routine?
[  ]  Daily: Get out of bed, dress, brush your teeth and hair, get sunshine (even if it’s overcast, go outside you’ll still get the vitamin D)
[  ]  Purchase a Planner
[  ]  Do you own a Journal for self-care and expression?
[  ]  Create scheduled time away and/or a date night.
[  ]  Do you have a habitual time of washing clothes, folding and putting them away? (daily/weekly)
[  ]  Create a habitual time of washing dishes either by hand or running your dishwasher (DO THIS DAILY).
[  ]  Do you review the month ahead at the end of each month?
[  ]  Create a staple guest dinner menu – with 2-3 meal options that you know how to cook well.
[  ]  Are there any things that can be delegated? Paired with other duties?  Deleted?
[  ] Is there anything (like a grocery list) that you can create a template for?
[  ]  Do you use Evernote to keep all your notes, lists, and important documents or photos?
[  ]  Create a store list.  List a store you frequently use (i.e. Amazon) and items you frequently buy there.  A checklist or reminder list.
[  ]  Clean the Bathroom daily, it will stay incredibly manageable.
[  ]  Create a Meal Plan of things you know you’ll eat and base your grocery list on this.
[  ]  Create an Easy, Simple Chore chart (rewards) for your kids if they are at least 2 years old.
[  ]  Take a pic of everything in wallet and print it.  Make sure account numbers are clear.
[  ]  Have a serious talk to your husband and agree on how to manage your money and what your part is in that (balancing the checkbook, paying the bills, keeping within a spending amount, etc.)
[  ]  Decide on a bedtime where you will feel most rested and keep to it as much as possible.
[  ]  Create a backup plan for if baby wakes you up in the night and how your morning will run if things don’t go smoothly
[  ]  Find and schedule a babysitter, mother’s helper, etc. so you can have a regular time to get things done and/or rest. (I need to do this one still!)

[  ]  Do not dwell on the past, what’s done is done.  Today is your opportunity to be renewed, so take it.

Make good use of this list to get the wheels spinning of what’s important to you. You’ll quickly start sparking ideas, this is how to get your life together.

Are there really no replies to this page? — I just discovered your site and I’m excited to read through it. A little nervous because I’m used to failure in this front. 😞 I have 5 and 2 year old. My hardest thing is being depressed. It was my go to coping mechanism for life before marriage and kids. I had hoped it’d get better because I made lots of progress before getting married. But now, it’s definitely crept back into my life. For me it’s mornings. It’s just SO HARD for me to face the day and get right to it. I usually act very irresponsibly and live in denial or distraction until after the middle of the day. Then when I only have so much time before my husband comes home I rush to do the bare minimum of what needs done. Make dinner.

Anyway. Thank you for your blog. And I’m going to search for the post with your story.
