How to Organize Your Life
Do you feel like you are scrambling? I like scrambled eggs but I never thought I’d be one. Momlife hands you many things but how to organize your life isn’t one of them!
There’s a lot to do when you are learning to be a mom and how to organize your house, career, money and more. There’s so much to do that if you aren’t organized things quickly become a huge mess of half-done projects and frustrating relationships.
Busy moms often say they could use an extra 10-12 hours in their day. Chances are you’d say that too and that’s why concrete organizational skills come in handy.

How to Get My Life Together – Creating Goals
With just a few tips, focus and practice you can be the successful mom that you’d like to be. That’s why you are reading this because you, like me, just have a strong desire for something more. And if you want it bad enough you’ll do something about it.
There are many moms who already have.
It is possible to juggle kids, chores, and stay on top of life. But not perfectly, because nothing is perfect.
Let me be clear, I’m not saying that I’m perfect at this and do it absolutely without a bump along the way. Nor that other women do either. So let’s not fall into that trap. But in general, if you and I learn to create these habits in our lives we’ll feel a lot less burdened, guilt and actually have more time to explore who we are and who we want to become.
The 5 Big Ways to Organize Your Mom Life
#1 Take Care Of Yourself
Yes, seriously. This is something that I strive to do because I know that if I don’t do this on a fairly regular basis I will burn out.
In order to be organized you have to know how to take care of your own needs – your hair, clothes, sleep.
Trust me, nothing will work if you miss out on too much sleep.
When you are taking care of yourself you can better attend to your family. You can be there with your kids.
I’ve written a whole post on taking care of yourself but I want to share here a couple of ways you can make sure you are mentally, spiritually and emotionally ready to keep those tops spinning.
Take a day “off”
Of course, we can’t fully take off (not regularly anyway), but there needs to be a day, an evening, where you aren’t pushing yourself to get everything done.
Instead, you can enjoy a wonderful detox bath or read your favorite book. Here are a few things to help you get started.
Keep up with exercise
This not only keeps you fit and helps you to sleep better. But exercise can be just the release you need to feel better about the chaos around you. Exercise allows the release of endorphins, which lowers stress, and serotonin, which is a natural mood enhancer.
Overall, taking care of yourself should include some type of regular exercise. Walking and swimming are the top exercises for optimal health. But if you want something a little more rigorous and something that can be done at home while baby is napping, I love to workout to these videos on Youtube:
Youtube also has an abundant amount of channels that will teach you step by step how to physically organize your home! Now back to our 5 Big Ways to get organized.
#2 Create Goals
You can do this!
I know thinking about goals can be a bit like a gorilla in the room but you can. I talk about how to create goals at home in this post, but really you just have to take time to consider what you want for your family and your life. What are the ways you need to organize yourself? Is it physical or mental organization.
Although this blog talks a great deal about mentally organizing your life and schedule, you have to know that you won’t make headway with the physical clutter without first re-programming your mind.
This really takes some stepping back and analyzing. That’s why I packaged together a whole library of resources. Included in this library is my super guide to help any mom get a hold on her goals and actually make progress. It’s free when you join my MomLife Organizer mailing list.

Even if it’s on the go, you need to create a list of goals.
If you are on the run, you can use the Evernote app to record your goals in a note that you can come back to when you have a better moment.
We’ll talk later about how to flesh those out.
But if you want to get organized make your list of goals for today, this week, this summer, this year.
Where do you want to be at the end of the scramble?
#3 Plan It!
With your list, you are on your way. Now we have to put your goals into a plan of action. Planning can come in a number of ways but for most moms, we just need to put it on the calendar.
When you perform your plan day after day, week in and week out, you will develop fabulous habits.
These will get you far. Every successful person has a list of habits that they follow. Think about athletes, they go over the plan and they have their habits and routines and that’s how they are winners. You won’t win if you drop out every time something else looks like a good plan.
#4 Manage Your Money
This is a big way that I stay organized.
If you don’t know what money you have it’s gonna be really hard to manage your home and actualize your plans for the future. You won’t have what you need for your kids, your home or your hobbies. You cannot ignore this big area of managing your money.
So since most people are in some amount of debt, let’s start there.
You may need to start with reducing family spending.
My go-to place for a proven and secure plan for getting out of debt (loans, and all other advice and tools) is Dave Ramsey Solutions. But there are many ways to find out more about how to best manage your money.
#5 Be Consistent
Big! Or actually small.
Lots of small incremental steps make up being consistent. Wanting to go somewhere in life, other than where you are? You better get a plan and be consistent.
Consistency is a topic that I’ve grown to love. I was not consistent in my college years but life has changed that.
It’s how we were able to get out of $40k of debt! This is also how I was able to accomplish everything involved in healing my son from eczema. And consistency is how I’m creating Momlife Organizer and so many others have done the same, all because of consistency.
Getting into a consistent mindset and schedule (getting up and having a plan, doing the steps to perform that plan every day) will allow you to be more organized, and more in control.
Conclusion
Want to know how to live an organized life? If you want to do anything in life you have to have a good hold on how you spend your time and money, now and in the future. Time and money are the two most precious commodities, especially for a mom at home.
Just because we are home does not mean we can afford to waste away our days. Make the best of every moment by first taking care of yourself, planning for your family and money, then being consistent with it all. These are the 5 most important things you can do to begin learning how to organize your life.
Great list of ideas and tasks that are actionable.
These are very useful tips, even for people who aren’t parents! I know I can work on being more consistent. Thank you for sharing!
Love this list! Consistency is definitely the secret sauce!
yes! consistency is the key! That is the one I have the hardest time with. I have plans, and I slow down and take care of myself but I don’t stay consistent.
Love these ideas! Great list.
