Start Your SAHM Journey The Right Way

How YOU Can Have a Motivating Morning!

Here is how to obtain that Good Morning Motivation
Energy.  That’s what it takes to be a mother.  But how can you have the motivation each morning to push through when the energy isn’t there?  We all want to have a good morning but how do we get that good morning motivation?

I don’t think I truly understood the term tired until I brought my first born home.  He never slept. I mean up at night, morning, and afternoon.  Naptime just did not happen.  It just didn’t.

With mommyhood any type of routine you have changes completely, unless you have a live in nanny and seriously who does?  (I know some of you do so blessings to you)  For most of us sleep, good sleep and good mornings are precious jewels to be treasured and stored in a safe.

If you can wake up ready for the day, ready to tackle those dirty diapers and “I have to go to the bathroom” when you have to be out the door to school, you will be able to practically tackle the world.

I’ve seen shirts that say, “You can’t scare me I’m a First Grade Teacher”.  How about “You can’t scare me I’m a mom of 3”?  You could say 2 or 4 but I have 3 so we’ll use that.

Now that I’m out of the newborn stage (again), I have found a rhythm for motivated mornings.  So I’d love to share it with you.  Keeping in mind that this might not work depending on what stage you are in but seriously, try something.

Don’t just stay in that place of

“WHY OH WHY do I have to go to sleep?

I’m only going to wake up living the same groundhog day with 2 kids driving me nuts!”

Don’t stay there. Perhaps you aren’t that bad off, but don’t we all need some motivation?

Here’s where to get your good morning motivation:

Start at dinner.  Don’t laugh!  A good morning really does start at dinner the day before.  I know you’ve heard this but you just gotta, some how get that kitchen presentable before you go to sleep.  If you have a dishwasher run it.  Put the leftovers away.

Yes, sometimes I left (and still leave) the leftovers sitting out all night.  Don’t look at me like that.  Survival mode is just that.  But get passed it.  Wipe the counter and if you have any more, “I can do this”, you’d do well to prep breakfast.

If you have older kids or a husband enlist them to help you to AT LEAST clean the dishes (or get them in the dishwasher). Seriously, this is an important step and if you can do it, do it.

Okay, now dishwashes are put away, kids are in bed.  Mama, this is probably the hardest thing ever for me, esp. having little ones — go to bed at a decent time.  For most that will be by or before 10:30.  Prime-time tv can wait (rent the episodes from the library or Netflix and watch it earlier).  If you want to have a motivating morning you have to be able to…

Get up at least an hour before the kids.  The SAHM’s I know have kids that sleep until 7:30 or 8 (or later!) but for us that have early-birds this may be a bit harder to do.  No one wants  to get up at 5:30, yet if you are seeking sanity for your morning you must.

Once I’m up I spend time praying and seeking God in His Word.  He is my Rock and He grounds me about why I’m here, what’s my purpose and His will.  He also gives me answers to how and when to discipline, guidance for the day and much more.  I am so settled by daily reading of the Bible and I do get strengthened for the day.

If you want to go all out, you could try to take 5 minutes after the devotion time to read a motivating book.  I have gotten through many books this way.  Five minutes is all it takes to get a nugget of wisdom and courage.  Currently I’m re-reading A Woman After God’s Own Heart.  Earlier in the year I read (SO GOOD!) Essentialism which just really put purpose, choice and direction to my days.

I put my book down and depending on the day I take time to either:

  • Exercise (I have a Youtube playlist of 5-20 minute exercise routines that will get your heart pumping and build those muscles)
  • Write (I’m in the editing stages of my first e-book, and of course I blog)
  • Household mental task (something I need focus in order to complete, like budgeting or building my recipe binder. Just 10-15 minutes a day)
If I exercise I straight away get in the shower, then I really begin the morning.  This is what most people do right out of bed – go to the kitchen and start coffee, tea, and prepare breakfast for the kids.
If I write, afterwards I may take a minute to search on Pinterest for a few motivating quotes or affirmations.  This also helps me to be ready for when the noise starts (if it hasn’t already) and I love tweeting positive affirmations for other moms.  This really gives me a good morning because I love encouraging others.
Generally the mornings where I write I stick to 20 minutes tops, unless my DH (Dear Husband) is doing morning duty.  In which case, after one of the three above tasks I may just go into the bathroom and take a more leisurely time getting myself ready for the day.  Since my DH currently works 2nd shift this is one of the few conveniences I enjoy.   This has not always been the case, but I have always strived to wake up early and do some of the above.

Now, this is not a perfect plan.  This is just my rhythm and on the days I do these I am energized and motivated for the day.  On the days that I don’t do most of this I certainly have a hard time of it.  I highly encourage you that if you can’t do most of what I talked about, if baby allows you, these are THE essentials:

  • Go to sleep on time
  • wake up before the kids
  • have time in prayer and reading God’s Word

Do you do these already?  If not, what are your suggestions for morning inspiration for moms? I’d love to know!

I love this post! Love that you started at dinner the night before! It truly is KEY! I always tell my kids the kitchen is shut down for the night once I get it cleaned! And that way, it’s good to go in the morning! Again, loved it! Thanks for sharing!

Another great article Rose! Steve and I spend time daily reading the Word together and praying before he goes to work! This motivates both our days!!
