With mommyhood any type of routine you have changes completely, unless you have a live in nanny and seriously who does? (I know some of you do so blessings to you) For most of us sleep, good sleep and good mornings are precious jewels to be treasured and stored in a safe.
If you can wake up ready for the day, ready to tackle those dirty diapers and “I have to go to the bathroom” when you have to be out the door to school, you will be able to practically tackle the world.
I’ve seen shirts that say, “You can’t scare me I’m a First Grade Teacher”. How about “You can’t scare me I’m a mom of 3”? You could say 2 or 4 but I have 3 so we’ll use that.
Now that I’m out of the newborn stage (again), I have found a rhythm for motivated mornings. So I’d love to share it with you. Keeping in mind that this might not work depending on what stage you are in but seriously, try something.
Don’t just stay in that place of
“WHY OH WHY do I have to go to sleep?
I’m only going to wake up living the same groundhog day with 2 kids driving me nuts!”
Don’t stay there. Perhaps you aren’t that bad off, but don’t we all need some motivation?
Here’s where to get your good morning motivation:
Start at dinner. Don’t laugh! A good morning really does start at dinner the day before. I know you’ve heard this but you just gotta, some how get that kitchen presentable before you go to sleep. If you have a dishwasher run it. Put the leftovers away.
Yes, sometimes I left (and still leave) the leftovers sitting out all night. Don’t look at me like that. Survival mode is just that. But get passed it. Wipe the counter and if you have any more, “I can do this”, you’d do well to prep breakfast.
If you have older kids or a husband enlist them to help you to AT LEAST clean the dishes (or get them in the dishwasher). Seriously, this is an important step and if you can do it, do it.
If you want to go all out, you could try to take 5 minutes after the devotion time to read a motivating book. I have gotten through many books this way. Five minutes is all it takes to get a nugget of wisdom and courage. Currently I’m re-reading A Woman After God’s Own Heart. Earlier in the year I read (SO GOOD!) Essentialism which just really put purpose, choice and direction to my days.
- Exercise (I have a Youtube playlist of 5-20 minute exercise routines that will get your heart pumping and build those muscles)
- Write (I’m in the editing stages of my first e-book, and of course I blog)
- Household mental task (something I need focus in order to complete, like budgeting or building my recipe binder. Just 10-15 minutes a day)
- Go to sleep on time
- wake up before the kids
- have time in prayer and reading God’s Word
Do you do these already? If not, what are your suggestions for morning inspiration for moms? I’d love to know!
I love this post! Love that you started at dinner the night before! It truly is KEY! I always tell my kids the kitchen is shut down for the night once I get it cleaned! And that way, it’s good to go in the morning! Again, loved it! Thanks for sharing!
Another great article Rose! Steve and I spend time daily reading the Word together and praying before he goes to work! This motivates both our days!!
