Welcome to the daily routines of SAHM series.
As a SAHM/Homeschooling mom of more than a decade now, I feel a need to not just to give you advice but some actual STEPS to take a make your momlife journey more organized, intentional and smoother.
I tried to lay that out for you in the Preparation Series, where we talked about the need to get prepared and how to go about doing that in the home – for what you were already doing.
A little confusing? Well life is confusing and we need up preparing for things in the midst of the battle and that’s really not the way to do it. If you are just starting your motherhood journey, or you are pregnant, I highly suggest you go read through that series first.
So in this series, Everyday Habits, you are getting each day full of suggestions, based on my own experience and a variety of books I’ve read to make the most of your days.
If you are anything like me, you feel lost in how to be productive at home, especially when you have kids under 4. This guide provides you sample routines and priorities.
This is only a guide, you have to make each day your own, based on your needs and your family life. These are simply ideas. Take them, use them, change them to create your own schedule. Also, there are certain topics I briefly mention that I want to address here. These are Laundry, Everyday Habits, Home Blessing and Bible Time.
Laundry
I tried to mention it daily because if you have 4 or more people in your family you’ll do best to do it daily. But doing the laundry isn’t done when you get the clothes into the dryer. Folding and putting it away must be done or you’ll start to down in a few days. Laundry can go in first thing in the morning, get turned mid-morning (or snack time at my house), folded before lunch, at quiet time or right after quiet time and put away as you fold. Remember – PUT AWAY.
Everyday Habits
There are a few things that would help you over the years to just include in your day as a mom and these are Everyday Habits. You may not get the dishes done or your kid a bath, but I believe your home will be more peaceful and you feel more a person if you can at least keep these up. Then build around them.
Everyday Habits are:
Pray
Pray with your kids and teach them about God
Get Dressed
Brush Your Teeth
Wash Your Face
Beautify Yourself (be it makeup, perfume, face cream, etc.)
Spend time with your kids
Drink at least 6 glasses of water (8 may not be it for you)
Talk to your husband (everyday ladies)
Get in some type of physical movement
Get a blast of daylight before 11 am
Make time for yourself
Have a period of Quiet Time
Bibletime
In the main points for each day I mention doing Bibletime with your kids. Now if you are a Christian you hold time with our Creator as essential but sometimes it gets away from us with the hectic momlife.
Take time early, before kids get and read a bit from a Kids Bible. I like to do it at breakfast while they are sitting or right after. Now that my kids are bigger we also sing a hymn.
Home Blessing
This is a Flylady concept that I’ve adopted. Basically, you go through your rooms lightening, timed at 10 minutes for cleaning each room. I actually do 2 rooms and a few tasks like sweeping.
This keeps your whole house relatively clean at all times. I explain it better in my post, How I keep my House Clean in 15 minutes. But you get the idea.
Lastly, I mention these ideas for each day. You may want to read these ahead of time:

You are pretty much prepared to look at each day and how you can rule your days. Tomorrow we start with Sunday’s routine.
I’ll link them all here so you can come back and read them all!
I love these tips! Some of them are so easy to forget or overlook. But this is a very good reminder. Thanks for sharing!
These are really good ideas! Just the kick I needed to start developing a better routine.
putting away the laundry is the hardest for me!
The simplicity of this list helps bring things into perspective instead of being overwhelming. Thank you for that!
This is such a good list. My goal by the end of this month is to have a morning routine set in place. One that is realistic to my life, not one that looks good on paper but not manageable. I have gotten in a “SAHM rut”.
This is a wonderful list that is simple to follow. I’m glad that you mentioned the tip about beautifying yourself. I don’t feel good and less I’ve taken a shower and at least put some perfume on. It’s good to do a little something for yourself every day even if it is just something routine. Thank you for sharing.
Great tips! I feel like as a SAHM who also home schools, it’s really easy to get lazy with my routine since we don’t have anywhere we have to be in the morning! My hubby has a much better morning routine than I do because he HAS to get up for work. I’m going to have to check out your morning routine link as well!
I love that you keep all of your tips so simple and doable! These are really helpful!
Since becoming a mom, I have struggled with staying organized. This post has me thinking of new habits I need to adopt so that I can be more organized.
I’m definitely trying to be more imtentional as I stay home with my daughter. I like the idea of Bible reading in the morning. Before we would do it before bed but she was too tired.
These are wonderful ways to show gratitude! It makes the day easier when you know what you have to do. Great organizational post!
This a good checklist of daily things to do. It’s a good reminder to focus on relationships (Good, marriage, kids) and stop just looking inward. Thank you.
