How to Get Things Done Today
Feeling completely de-motivated? Maybe stressed? Well, Good Morning anyway! Coffee or not, we will get something done today. Here’s some inspiration to get things done.
They say, Eat That Frog…but maybe not
I’ve been reading this book by Brian Tracy.
He’s a real productivity leader and although I don’t agree with everything he says, he does have some easy to implement insights on getting things done.
In this book, he talks about doing the hardest thing first because everything else is easy-peasy afterward. It gives you that accomplished surge to move through other projects to get things done. If this sounds appealing, you could look at your tasks for the day, pick the hardest, most important and get to it.
However, when you don’t have the motivation to do any of it, perhaps because you feel exhausted by motherhood (link to Why You Can Try Again post), thinking about doing the most challenging task first thing in the morning is not the way to go.
Easy Things to Try
For me, I have found many times that I can get some ‘get up and go’ from doing a few simple tasks and building up to the major one. Here are some things to try (you don’t have to try them all!).
- Wash my Face. I cannot tell you how many times washing my face or taking a quick shower has made uninspired thinking vanish.
- Read my Bible and Pray! God’s Word is good for everything, especially for getting motivated. (a good reminder to read is Proverbs 10:4)
- Make coffee or better yet lemon & honey tea for some vitamin C and nourishment
- Empty the Dishwasher (too hard? ok try the next one)
- Make up your bed (the clean look of the room always motivates me)
- Throw in some laundry
- Dust (yep, just wiping away dirt gets me in a cleaning mood)
- Go outside for some fresh air, maybe even a short walk (yes get the kids dressed). Going outside of my house for some time tends to clear my head and get my priorities straight.
Last Resort to Get Things Done
Did you actually try a few of those but still feel terribly de-motivated? There is one last trick up my sleeve. When I am just not motivated to do things, and I’m honestly not tired (and you know when you need more sleep, but if that’s not it), I have one more thing that I do that generally helps.
It’s being around someone that is doing things!
Being a stay at home mom, doesn’t always allow me to be around other moms in a way where I’m seeing them get things done or that allows me to help them in their tasks.
But you know what you can do?
Watch others on Youtube. No, it’s not the best solution ever but it’s the one that helped me several times.
Some of my favorite, inspirational and motivational Youtubers in the Best Organization Youtube Channels. Follow along watching others clean, cook, plan and you can do it right along with. This always puts me in the mind of what I can do for my family. I like to search for videos on the very task I need/want to do.
I Just Can’t Get Things Done
Sometimes it’s not just a de-motivated day or days. Sometimes we need a bit of hand-holding and I’m all for that. I put together a guide so you can actually see the thought process needed to not just survive but actually accomplish your goals.
Get My Guide: Actually Get Something Done
This is something I put together for the struggling mother that isn’t sure how to crush her goals and rule her days. I walk you through how to use the guide, give you some encouragement and understanding of how to create habits with plenty of space for you to create your day.
