Do You Have Low Self-Esteem?
Before I became a mom I would say I had good self-esteem, but now I’d definitely say I lack confidence. I don’t have a particular reason I can point at and say this is why, y’know, so I can go and fix it.
I believe it was a journey downhill and I felt very insecure about many things. I was concerned about how my home looked, how my kids looked, the type of clothes I wore and even my ability to add to intelligent conversation.
New Mom Lack of Confidence
If I’m describing you, you aren’t alone. Many mothers start out with a tower of confidence only to have those first few nights at home with baby start to remove blocks from your tower. Those blocks keep getting removed until you may end up feeling like an outsider. Even as if you lost your own identity.
I can tell you that one reason is that we compare ourselves to others. Another reason may be that you have a lot more weighing on you. The responsibility of getting so many things right, plus knowing that there are little eyes watching and this affects a whole other person’s life!
There are many reasons, some similar to mine and some quite different. Regardless, we have to know that confidence doesn’t come from inside of us.
How to Overcome a Lack of Confidence
We can’t will ourselves into being secure. But we don’t have to be afraid either. Fear comes from the devil. Evil and hatred breeds fear. But instead, we can take steps each day knowing that the Lord is our confidence. God is love and ALL love casts out fear.
Proverbs 3:26
For the Lord will be [a]your confidence
And will keep your foot from being caught.
Also, know that the Lord has created you. He knew the ups and downs you’d come to. He knows them now!
Whatever you are going through, we can have confidence that the Lord is right there with us. Our lack of confidence doesn’t deter Him from His plan for you. We can be certain He has a plan for us (Jer. 29:11) and that we can walk in it without fear.
