How to Enjoy Life
Often we are so bombarded with trouble, confusion, frustration and other challenges in motherhood that we fail to see the good. In this post, I’d like to touch on how to enjoy life when things are going well.
Challenges Are Every Day
You ever find yourself jumping from fear to fear or frustration to frustration?
The kids aren’t listening when you tell them to stop jumping on the couch or to leave each other alone. You might burn dinner or forget about dinner until it’s well past 5 o’clock. You get another bill in the mail that you didn’t expect and at the same time, your husband comes in and says the car needs to go in the shop and he doesn’t know where the money is coming from. These are downers that keep us from looking at the bright side of life.
Sometimes I have to teach myself how to enjoy life all over again due to troublesome things like this. Let’s stop and see the good going on, not just the bad.
How to Look on the Bright Side
Even through the challenges we must try to be fair. There are good things if you stop to observe.
- The dishwasher washes, the refrigerator is working, the furnace has not gone out for the last 6 years!
- Your kids love you and aren’t maliciously out to disobey you.
- And if you are a regular reader of this blog, likely you are able to stay home. But even if you are a working mom, you have a steady job to provide for them.
There are always things that the Lord blesses us with that we can stop and say, “Yes, God has been good to me and my family.” We’ve never been without shelter, food or clothes – and WITH THESE we are to be content! (1 Tim 6:8)
You are able to breathe, walk and talk. You are able to praise His name. Making a list of things can sometimes help. Or better yet, get on the phone with someone and share lists of blessings in each other’s lives.
Help for When You Can’t See How You Can Enjoy Life
I admit, there are times when even listing things out just doesn’t seem to be enough. This is generally a problem with contentment. And yes, even with having a thankful heart. If you see this as true, here are some solutions.
Read my Contentment Series.
In this series, I go over the errors we hold in our hearts that prevent us from walking in contentment as moms and how to change those to start enjoying life again.
