Spiritual Attack on Motherhood
Do you ever feel like you are enduring a spiritual attack in motherhood? As if everything is keeping you from enjoying your children and home? Sometimes it seems like even your kids are against you as you strive to serve them.
Why are you being attacked?
There are several reasons you are receiving a specific attack in motherhood, however, I will just cover the main one in this post. What is that reason: Satan hates the family. Satan is against everything that God says is good because he is against God. God has established the family as one of the very first “GOOD” things. When Adam and Eve were placed together as husband and wife, because it’s -not- good for man to be alone, God was establishing the family.
Satan wants to destroy that and if he can’t destroy it, making family-life as difficult as possible is his next plan.
How are you being attacked?
The spiritual warfare going on in the home is a silent warfare. I talk about this more in my book is called So You Wanna Be a Stay at Home Mom? because being at home you are enduring these attacks regularly and usually alone.
However, the spiritual attack on motherhood is not always obvious or easy to counteract. Why directed at mom? Because Satan knows that mom is the superglue in the family and, as the old saying goes ‘if mom is not happy nobody is’.
So he targets mothers and his plan centers around lies. He does the same thing he’s always done since the beginning. He deceived Eve by slipping in a lie and making her question God’s Word and God’s goodness. So I’m sure you can guess his main strategy for your life: slipping in lies and leading you to doubt God’s Word and God’s goodness.
If you’d like to read my older post on the Attack on the Home (part I) scripture to back this up.
Are there other methods of Spiritual Attack on Motherhood?
Now even though the deception is his main strategy there are other spiritual attacks for moms to defend against. Another huge area is dealing with our children’s ungodly attitudes and behaviors.
This is a draining battle and even more so when we are taken off guard and respond in the flesh, instead of in the spirit. The third strategy of his spiritual warfare against the home: discontentment.
God tells us several times to rejoice, be joyful and be thankful. Instead, we compare, complain and compete with others in our race to have and be the best. God doesn’t want us to look out but up.
How do you protect your home from a spiritual attack?
In my previous post on Spiritual Attack on Motherhood, I talk about 4 ways to stop these attacks from penetrating your heart and life. I do want to recap on 3 things you can do, starting today, to defend yourself and allow God to defeat the devil’s work in your life.
Draw Near to God
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6
The Bible very clearly instructs us that God is more powerful than Satan. There is nothing that Satan can do to God’s true children, if we are under the protection of the Holy Spirit. How do you know you are? By entrusting your heart and life to Jesus. Jesus is God’s Son, just as powerful and holy, knowing everything the Father knows.
By reading the books of the gospels (good news of the Bible), you will come to know who Jesus is and that He is the only way to the Father.
Jesus is the reason God covers our sins, there is no other reason, no other way. Once you understand who Jesus is, you must call upon God to save you on account of Jesus’ sacrifice for us.
This only begins our journey of drawing near to God.
Pray
pray without ceasing… 1 Thessalonians 5:17
Next, we pray. Even after we have Jesus as our Lord, we still live in sinful bodies. This is a time of learning but also building a relationship with God.
We do that by talking with Him in prayer.
If we are under spiritual attack, take that seriously and pray hard. Prayer is not an option, it is commanded of us and we should work to make it a regular daily habit to spend time with our Creator and seeking His protection.
Develop a Heart of Gratitude
pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:17-19
Praying regularly and being in touch with our Creator leads us to develop hearts of gratitude. We now can see all that God has for us here and in eternity. Each day we can defend ourselves by being intentional about thankfulness and teaching our kids to walk with thankful hearts.
