Do You Think You are Not Good Enough?
I’ll tell you right now this is the downfall of many a mother. You walk around feeling like less than fodder. You think you are not good enough but let’s look at the facts.
The Fear That You Are Not Good Enough
Yes, this sort of thinking comes from fear. This fear of not matching up is not a God-given fear as some may say. If you are a Christ-follower, you are good enough in Christ because God sees Jesus when He looks at you. Christ is everything we need. But the fear remains – I don’t stack up. You start to even believe that you deserve mistreatment from friends, family, and strangers – even your kids. They run over you in little and big ways and you die inside every time. You want to fight back, but you may only say in a small voice, “That’s not nice, Johnny.” You know there is more going on but you nearly give up and justify it with things like:
- We are supposed to be quiet and gentle
- I’m doing a good thing since I’m not yelling at my son
- I’m being a peacemaker
- I deserve this because I always mess up
Now I’m not saying you should yell and scream. It’s not the action I’m addressing but the mindset. God doesn’t want you to give up or faint.
Regardless if you’ve come from a background of abuse, neglect or perhaps nothing of the kind, you can still end up internalizing thoughts that you are less than those around you. You might even pick up the notion that you should serve in a slave-like manner and that your needs and care don’t matter. And yet, this does not reflect the true nature of who you are.
Truth You Can Hold on To
Remember I told you, Jesus called us to a living hope by His resurrection. God cares about you so much that He is preparing a place for YOU! A special place in His Kingdom is set aside for you. You matter to God every day and in every way. Check out these scriptures.
1 John 4:18
1 John 4: 16
Galatians 2:20
Jeremiah 31:3
Zephaniah 3:17
Ephesians 2:4-5
Ephesians 2:10
Psalm 139:13-14
As you can see from this long list that God cares about you, as an individual. He is thinking about you and doesn’t want you to feel as if you don’t matter. You matter, even with your imperfect actions! And you know what? We all are imperfect, every day making mistakes, misusing our time, resources, saying the wrong things but we have to take hold of the grace God gives us. Tomorrow I’ll talk more about taking hold of God’s grace.
